Vestmannaeyjabær

Iceland

We travelled for hours to get to the famous Seljalandsfoss waterfall, only to find a pathetic trickle of meltwater dribbling into the river below, thanks to the thick ice built up over its rim.

Looking back in the opposite direction, however, the afternoon sun slicing through the sea spray picked out the island of Vestmannaeyjabær in beautiful silhouette, which made for a much more impressive sight. This is one of the big benefits of carrying a telephoto lens with you, even for landscape photography.
