The volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula put an end to our plans to visit the Blue Lagoon, Iceland. Instead, we headed inland to the beautiful Secret Lagoon at Hverahólmi.

I've done the Blue Lagoon before, and out of the two, I much preferred the more authentic experience at Hverahólmi. The Blue Lagoon is more of a resort experience - well catered for, but eye-wateringly expensive and overly-commercialised. The volcanic baths at Hverahólmi are a much simpler affair, and a wonderful experience.
