Stein Glacier

Switzerland

Day six of my motorcycle tour across Europe brought me to the Stein Glacier, a 5km river of ice terminating in an almost fluorescent pool of turquoise melt water just North of the Swisstalian border. It sits along the Susten Pass, a river of twisting alpine tarmac some 2,264m above sea level, filled with steep narrow cliff-edge roads riddled with hairpins, many with no barriers or walls.

The journey was stunning, but utterly terrifying for someone with a fear of heights. There was a 28°c temperature difference between the summit and the valley below.
