Photograph of St. Mary's Lighthouse by Alex Nichol

St. Mary's Lighthouse

St. Mary's has been done to death by every photographer in the North of England, so I thought I'd take a slightly less orthodox angle of her. Not only that, I wanted to use a lens that wouldn't ordinarily be associated with landscape photography - the Zeiss 50mm f1.4 T* Planar .

This long exposure was taken on my Canon EOS 5D Mark II with the help of the excellent Lee 100mm Filter Kit , and especially the Big Stopper 10-stop Neutral Density filter.
