Pow Hill Country Park

County Durham

I had the day to myself, so I headed down to Pow Hill Country Park, on the banks of Derwent Reservoir in County Durham to photograph squirrels. It's one of the last remaining red squirrel colonies in the UK, made famous by a photograph published in a BBC calendar a few years back.

It's a lovely spot, which means it gets busy with dog walkers, so it's worth getting there early to avoid the crowds. I wandered up into the woods, away from the car park, and spotted this little fella tucking into his breakfast in a tree.
