Photograph of The Fairy Glen by Alex Nichol

The Fairy Glen

I don't know if the landscape of the Fairy Glen is natural or man-made, but there's something really odd about its unnaturally terraced hillsides. I chose the wrong time of day to visit (golden hour) when the sun was strong and low, casting harsh shadows over the landscape.

Whilst this cast the terraced grass in bold relief, it made for a jarring and contrasty image that doesn't do the place justice. In retrospect, I should have take several exposures and created an HDR image with a flatter profile.

Nevermind. Another reason to go back one day.

These photographs were taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and the extraordinary Canon 35 mm f/1.4 L II USM .
