Magic Kingdom
Florida
On our first day in Disney World Florida, we caught the ferryboat across Seven Seas Lagoon to Magic Kingdom. It was so humid even first thing in the morning, it took a good twenty minutes for the lens of my Fuji X100V to demist. It was my first time at the real McCoy. As a teenager, I'd visited Disneyland Paris when it opened back in the early 1990's, but on reflection, it was to Florida what Aldi's own-brand ketchup is to the Heinz original.
Like most things in life, the Americans amp the theme park concept to a whole other level. From the colourful shop fronts down Main Street to the fully functional steamboat at Liberty Square, every inch of this place is like another world entirely. There are lots of great rides in Magic Kingdom too, from the classics like Space Mountain and the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, to more recent hi-tech rides like the Tron Lightcycle Run. Even some of the gentler experiences, like the Haunted Mansion, proved a welcome break from the blistering midafternoon heat.
