After a lovely day exploring Lake Como in scorching hot sunshine, we finally settled down for dinner at a little restaurant in Piazza Alessandro in Como town, when dark thunderclouds swallowed up the sun and the sky opened up.

There were squeals of both terror and laughter as the wind caught several umbrellas in the piazza, and waiters from the surrounding eateries ran over to help secure them while customers tried to rescue their meals from the deluge.

By the time we'd moved indoors, there were only two women left sitting out in the storm, finishing what was left of their water-logged dinner, while taking selfies. An hour later, it was all over.
